August/September Players of the Month Announced

Congratulations to the Region 20 Players of the Month for August/September 2025. Region 20 recognized eight student-athletes from six member institutions. 

DII Volleyball
Etta Harris, So., OH, Cecil
Harris had double-digit kills in nine of 11 matches for the Seahawks, including three with 20+ kills. She broke Cecil's all-time kills record with 26 against Harford on September 3rd. Harris averaged 4.36 kills per set while hitting .315. She averaged 5.14 points and 1.89 digs per set to go with 20 aces.

DIII Volleyball
Josie Russo, So., MH, Butler County
Russo averaged 4.18 kills per set to lead the Pioneers to 13-0 start to the season and the No. 6 ranking in the Division III national poll. She logged a .471 hitting percentage and helped the Pioneers drop only one set in 13 matches with 1.55 digs and 1.45 blocks per set – all totals landing Russo in the top 10 in the NJCAA stat leaders per category.

DI Men's Soccer
Cristian Lopez-Contreras, So., M, Harford
Cristian Lopez-Contreras scored 13 goals with four multi-goal performances to lead the Fighting Owls to an 8-4 start to the season. He had assists in five other contests to total 31 points to lead Region 20 and rank fourth nationally across all divisions.

DII Men's Soccer
Alvaro Acosta, Fr., M, CCBC Essex
Acosta totaled 16 points on six goals and four assists through the first 10 games of the season for CCBC Essex. In his career debut he scored the game-winner against then-No. 16 Prairie State. Acosta scored two goals on just two shots against Southern Maryland and closed out September on a five-game point streak.

DII Women's Soccer (Co-Winners)
Genesis Alvarez, Fr., GK, Allegany
Alvarez delivered a remarkable start to the 2025 season allowing just 10 goals over the first nine games for Allegany College of Maryland. Alvarez, who has logged all 810 minutes between the pipes for the Trojans, posted a 1.11 goals against average with four shutouts in September. She made double-digit saves in four games, including a career-high 19 to preserve a tie against Region 20 leader College of Southern Maryland on September 27.

Emma Miga, So., F, Anne Arundel
Miga totaled 40 points on 17 goals and six assists in the first 10 games of the season for Anne Arundel. She recorded three hat tricks and scored a pair of game-winning goals – first in a rematch of last year's District Championship at Mercer County on September 6, then against Hagerstown via penalty kick on September 25. Miga tallied at least one point in nine games and closed out the month on an eight-game scoring streak which included six multi-goal games.

Men's Cross Country
Kiya Archibald, Fr., CCBC Essex
Archibald ran in four meets for the Knights, clocking a time of 17:35, the fourth-fastest 5k time in CCBC Essex history in his first collegiate race. He followed that up with a 28:43 8k race, the eighth fastest in school history before closing out the month with a 15 second PR in the 8k with a time of 28:28.

Women's Cross Country
Emma Pyles, So., CCBC Essex
Pyles ran in four meets for the Knights, leading off with a PR of more than a minute with a 5k time of 23:08, the 11th-fastest in CCBC Essex history. She set another PR the following week cutting 23 seconds off her 5k time. Pyles finished out the month with a 17:52 4k time.
